Library Resource Guide: Faculty

Working with your book budget

Faculty are encouraged to help the Library keep abreast of the latest advancements in their fields and enhance the quality of teaching and research they offer to students and the broader academic community.

Your book budget is an essential resource provided by the Library to support the academic and research needs of faculty. Designed to foster a dynamic and intellectually stimulating learning environment, the book budget empowers faculty members with the means to access a vast array of scholarly works, streaming sources, reference materials, and other relevant publications across various disciplines.

When working with your book budget, consider the following criteria:

  • Allocation: The book budget is thoughtfully allocated by the Library on an annual basis, taking into consideration the number of faculty members, departmental needs, and the overall academic priorities of UVA Wise.

  • Access to Digital Resources: As technology advances, the book budget recognizes the importance of digital resources. Faculty members can access e-books, online databases, and digital archives, further expanding their research capabilities and reducing reliance on physical copies.
  • Specialized Collections: In addition to mainstream academic materials, the book budget may also support the development of specialized collections in niche areas, reflecting the unique strengths, instruction and interests of UVA Wise.

  • Accountability: To ensure effective utilization of resources, there may be periodic reporting or evaluation requirements to assess the impact of the book budget and optimize its allocation in subsequent years.
